Steroid shot before aortic surgery may prevent dangerous inflammatory reaction

NCT ID NCT07328906

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving steroids before a procedure to fix the main artery in the chest (TEVAR) can prevent a common complication called postimplantation syndrome (PIS). PIS causes flu-like symptoms and can lead to longer hospital stays and heart problems. About 174 adults scheduled for elective aortic repair will receive either steroids or a placebo before surgery, and researchers will track how many develop PIS and other complications.
