Steroid shot before aortic surgery may prevent dangerous inflammatory reaction

NCT ID NCT07328906

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether giving steroids before a major aortic repair surgery (TEVAR) can prevent postimplantation syndrome—a flu-like inflammatory reaction that often leads to longer hospital stays and serious heart problems. About 174 adults scheduled for elective aortic repair will receive either steroids or a placebo before surgery. Researchers will track how many develop the syndrome, heart injury, or major cardiac events in the days after the procedure.
