Could a short steroid course ease pain and nausea after bone surgery?

NCT ID NCT03661645

First seen Apr 10, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks at whether taking a 6-day course of the steroid methylprednisolone after common orthopedic surgeries (like joint replacement or fracture repair) can reduce pain, nausea, and improve movement compared to just getting a single dose of steroid during surgery. About 500 adults will be randomly assigned to either the standard single dose or the single dose plus the 6-day taper. The goal is to see if the longer course helps people recover more comfortably.
