New approach aims to curb opioid dependence after common surgeries

NCT ID NCT06780202

Summary

This study is testing whether a short, low-dose course of steroids (methylprednisolone) can help patients manage pain after foot or ankle surgery with fewer opioid painkillers. Researchers will enroll 180 patients to see if the steroid pack reduces pain, nausea, and overall opioid consumption in the days following surgery. The goal is to find safer pain management options to help address the risks of opioid addiction.
