New tool aims to cut confusion and stress for families facing tough nursing home hospital moves

NCT ID NCT07153341

Summary

This study is testing a toolkit called STEP, which is designed to help long-term care residents, their families, and nursing staff make better decisions about whether to send a resident to the hospital during a sudden health crisis. About 200 people from two long-term care homes will use booklets and guides to have clearer conversations about the pros and cons of hospital transfers. Researchers will check if using the toolkit reduces confusion and stress for families and makes nurses feel more confident in guiding these difficult decisions.
