Stem cells may help spina bifida babies walk better

NCT ID NCT04652908

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding stem cells from the placenta to fetal surgery can help babies with spina bifida walk better and have better bowel and bladder control. About 55 pregnant women carrying babies with spina bifida will receive the stem cell-enhanced surgery. The goal is to see if it is safe and if it improves movement more than surgery alone.
