Could umbilical cord cells save COVID patients from ventilators?

NCT ID NCT04869397

Summary

This study tested whether a single infusion of stem cells from umbilical cords could help hospitalized COVID-19 patients with severe pneumonia. The goal was to see if the treatment could prevent patients from needing a ventilator or dying. The trial was small, ended early, and compared the stem cell infusion against a placebo, with all patients also receiving standard COVID care.
