Scientists test stem cell shot to halt blinding eye disease

NCT ID NCT03178149

Summary

This is an early-stage study to check the safety of a new treatment called ASP7317 for people with advanced dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a condition that causes central vision loss. The treatment involves injecting lab-grown retinal cells under the damaged part of the eye, with the hope they will replace lost cells and slow disease progression. About 42 participants with moderate to severe vision loss will receive one of three doses and be closely monitored for one year for safety and any signs of vision improvement.
