Stem cell infusion trial offers hope for critically ill ARDS patients

NCT ID NCT03042143

Summary

This trial is testing whether a single infusion of donor stem cells can help treat Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), a life-threatening lung condition often seen in severe COVID-19 and other critical illnesses. The study first checked if the treatment was safe at different doses. It is now comparing the highest safe dose against a placebo in about 120 critically ill patients on ventilators to see if it improves lung function and recovery.
