Stem cell shot tested for dual battle with booze and blues

NCT ID NCT03265808

Summary

This study tested whether an infusion of donor stem cells is safe and might help people who struggle with both heavy drinking and major depression. Thirty-one participants were randomly assigned to receive either the stem cell treatment or a placebo infusion. Researchers monitored them for a year to check for safety issues and see if the treatment reduced depression, drinking, or inflammation.
