Experimental stem cell treatment offers hope for deadly transplant complication

NCT ID NCT00284986

Summary

This study tested whether Prochymal, a stem cell therapy, could help patients with severe graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) that hadn't responded to standard treatments. GVHD is a dangerous complication that can occur after a bone marrow transplant, where the donor cells attack the patient's body. The trial enrolled 11 patients with life-threatening GVHD to see if the stem cell infusions could reduce symptoms and improve survival.
