Fat to the rescue: using your own stem cells to heal stubborn wounds

NCT ID NCT02375802

ENROLLING_BY_INVITATION Disease control Sponsor: Mayo Clinic Source: ClinicalTrials.gov ↗

Summary

This small, early-stage study is testing whether stem cells taken from a patient's own body fat can help heal serious pressure sores or diabetic foot ulcers. Doctors take a small amount of fat via liposuction, extract the stem cells, and apply them directly to the wound. The main goal is to see if this approach is safe and if it helps wounds heal faster than usual.
