New transplant approach aims to cure 'Bubble Boy' disease

NCT ID NCT04370795

Summary

This study aimed to test a stem cell transplant procedure to cure Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID), a life-threatening condition where the immune system doesn't work. Researchers wanted to see if using lower doses of chemotherapy drugs, with or without radiation, before the transplant could help patients accept donor cells safely and effectively. The trial was designed for children and adults aged 3-40 with SCID who had a matched donor, but the study was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled.
