New transplant strategy aims to cure devastating immune disease

NCT ID NCT02629120

Summary

This study is testing a modified stem cell transplant procedure for people with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), a rare genetic disorder where the immune system cannot fight certain infections. The goal is to cure the disease by replacing a patient's faulty immune cells with healthy donor cells. Researchers are using a high dose of donor cells and specific drugs after the transplant to try to improve the chances of success and reduce dangerous side effects where the donor cells attack the patient's body.
