Stem cells injected into eye aim to halt blindness in AMD patients
NCT ID NCT07418177
First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This early-stage study tests whether transplanting lab-grown retinal cells (made from stem cells) into the eye is safe for people with late-stage age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Nine adults aged 50 to 80 will receive the cell injection under the retina. The main goal is to check for side effects; doctors will also measure any changes in vision. This is not a cure—patients may still need ongoing care.
