Cord blood stem cells aim to restore function after stroke

NCT ID NCT06129175

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests whether a single infusion of stem cells from donated umbilical cord blood can help people recover function after a moderate-to-severe stroke. The trial enrolls 80 adults who had a stroke within the past 4 weeks and cannot receive standard clot-busting drugs or clot removal. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either the stem cell treatment or a placebo, and their recovery is tracked for one year using standard disability scales.
