Experimental cell implant aims to help bodies make insulin again

NCT ID NCT06651515

Summary

This early-stage study tested whether implanting clusters of pancreatic cells into the abdomen could help adults with severe type 1 diabetes produce their own insulin. Participants would have needed to take lifelong anti-rejection drugs to prevent their immune systems from attacking the implanted cells. The trial was withdrawn by the sponsor before any participants were enrolled.
