Swallow this sponge instead of a tube? new test aims to spot esophagus condition

NCT ID NCT06803927

Summary

This study is testing a new, less invasive way to check for Barrett's Esophagus, a condition that can increase the risk of esophageal cancer. Participants swallow a small capsule that releases a sponge to collect cells from the esophagus, which is then pulled back up by a string. The cell samples are analyzed and compared to results from the standard procedure (endoscopy with biopsy) to see if the sponge test is accurate. The goal is to offer an easier screening option for people at risk.
