First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests the long-term safety and effectiveness of a drug called SPN-817 in adults with focal onset seizures (a type of epilepsy). About 100 people who completed a previous SPN-817 study will take the drug for one year. Researchers will track side effects and measure changes in seizure frequency.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
SPN-817 (a drug taken twice daily, starting at a low dose and possibly increasing)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new long-term treatment option to help control focal seizures in adults with epilepsy.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase, open-label extension study with no placebo group, so results may be less reliable. Side effects are possible, and the drug may not work for everyone.
