New nerve block could cut opioid use after back surgery

NCT ID NCT05856539

Summary

This study is testing whether a specific nerve block, called an erector spinae plane block, can help reduce the need for opioid painkillers after minimally invasive lower back surgery. Researchers will compare patients who receive the nerve block with those who don't, measuring pain levels, medication use, and recovery time. The goal is to find safer pain management options that avoid opioid side effects like breathing problems and addiction risk.
