Back crack to stop falls? new trial tests spinal manipulation in stroke patients

NCT ID NCT07619586

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a quick, gentle push on the lower back (called lumbar spinal manipulation) can improve balance and lower fall risk in people who have had a chronic stroke. Fifty-two participants will receive both the real manipulation and a placebo version at different times, and their balance will be measured on a special platform. The goal is to see if this simple, hands-on technique can help stroke survivors feel steadier on their feet.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Lumbar spinal manipulation (a hands-on technique applying a quick, gentle force to the lower back)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to improve balance and reduce falls in people who have had a stroke.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 52 people. The effect may be small or temporary, and results may not apply to everyone with stroke.
