Scientists test spinal implant that could help paralyzed patients walk again

NCT ID NCT02490501

Summary

This early study tested whether surgically implanting a biodegradable device containing growth factors into the spinal cord could help restore function in people with complete spinal cord injuries. Ten participants with injuries between the chest and lower back were randomly assigned to receive either the implant plus walking training or walking training alone. Researchers monitored safety and looked for signs of improved nerve signaling and movement.
