New surgery aims to ease pressure on damaged spinal cords
NCT ID NCT04936620
Summary
This UK trial is testing whether adding a surgical step called 'duroplasty' to standard spine surgery helps people recover better from a severe spinal cord injury in the neck. Duroplasty involves opening the tough membrane around the spinal cord to give the swollen cord more space, which researchers hope will reduce pressure and improve blood flow. The study will randomly assign about 222 adults to receive either standard surgery or standard surgery plus duroplasty, and then track their recovery in strength, movement, and quality of life over a year.
