Can short bursts of low oxygen help heal spinal cords?

NCT ID NCT03780829

Summary

This early-stage research aims to understand if a new therapy can help improve arm and hand movement after a neck-level spinal cord injury. The therapy involves brief, repeated periods of low-oxygen breathing combined with hand exercises. The study first tests this approach in rats, then plans to use that knowledge to guide a study in veterans with chronic spinal cord injuries to see if it helps their grip and pinch strength.
