New scan may spare throat cancer patients from harsh side effects

NCT ID NCT07241273

First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests whether a special scan (SPECT-CT) can show which side of the neck needs radiation in oropharyngeal cancer. Currently, both sides are treated to prevent hidden cancer spread, causing more side effects. The goal is to see if treating only the affected side keeps cancer from returning while improving quality of life. About 128 adults with early-stage oropharyngeal cancer will take part.
