New scan could spare throat cancer patients from unnecessary radiation side effects

NCT ID NCT07241273

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 22, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a special scan (SPECT-CT) can show which side of the neck needs radiation in people with oropharyngeal cancer. Currently, both sides are treated to prevent hidden cancer spread, but this causes more side effects. The trial will enroll 128 patients to see if using the scan to treat only one side keeps cancer from coming back while improving quality of life.
