Sound waves blast away artery calcium in new PAD trial
NCT ID NCT07209085
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new device that uses sound waves to break up hard calcium deposits in leg arteries of people with peripheral artery disease (PAD). About 110 adults will receive the minimally invasive procedure and be followed for 6 months. Researchers will check if the artery opens safely and stays open, and if there are any serious complications.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
FastWave Artero Peripheral IVL System (device that uses sound waves to break up calcium in arteries)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, less invasive way to treat hardened leg arteries in people with peripheral artery disease, improving blood flow and reducing symptoms.
What could go wrong
This is an early study with only 110 people and no comparison group. The device may not work as hoped, or could cause complications like artery damage or blockages.
