Loneliness may speed aging in schizophrenia: landmark study launches

Summary

This study looks at whether social isolation speeds up aging and causes health problems in people with schizophrenia. Researchers will follow 650 participants (500 with schizophrenia and 150 siblings) over time, tracking medical records and social activity. The goal is to understand how loneliness affects physical health so that better treatments can be developed to prevent early death.
