Cultural gatherings fight loneliness and depression in immigrant women
NCT ID NCT04254198
Summary
This study tested whether weekly Spanish-language peer support groups, called 'Tertulias,' could help reduce depression and feelings of isolation in Mexican immigrant women. Over 240 women participated, with some attending weekly gatherings for a year while others received check-in calls. Researchers measured changes in depression, stress, resilience, and social support to see if the culturally tailored social connection improved mental health.
