Texting to save lives: new study fights wasting in HIV-Exposed kids

NCT ID NCT06842732

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether a simple text-message system can help caregivers in Kenya monitor their child's nutrition at home and prevent wasting. About 600 caregiver-child pairs (children aged 6-24 months who are HIV-exposed) will be split into two groups: one gets weekly texts with feeding tips and reminders to measure the child's arm, while the other gets only appointment reminders. The goal is to see if the text group has fewer cases of malnutrition, faster recovery, and fewer hospitalizations.
