Scientists probe hidden heart risk in Ex-Smokers

NCT ID NCT04987268

Summary

This study aimed to understand if a specific genetic change in blood cells, called CHIP, affects the risk of future heart problems in people who have had a heart attack and quit smoking. Researchers followed over 1,000 patients who had a procedure to open blocked heart arteries. They checked patients' genes and tracked their health for one year to see if the CHIP mutation was linked to more heart-related hospital visits or events.
