First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tested a mobile app designed to help people quit smoking by using a technique called cognitive dissonance — making smokers feel the conflict between wanting to be healthy and continuing to smoke. 72 adult daily smokers who wanted to quit used the app for 25 days. Researchers measured changes in smoking habits and readiness to quit. The goal was to see if the app was practical and helpful.
