First seen Aug 04, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study aims to develop and test two short telehealth education sessions designed for people who smoke daily and live with chronic pain. The sessions provide information on how smoking affects health and where to find cessation resources. Researchers will first refine the materials with feedback from focus groups, then compare how feasible and acceptable each session is for participants. Volunteers will attend one online session and complete surveys over the following three months.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Smoking and Health Telehealth Intervention (educational session delivered via live telehealth)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a practical, accessible telehealth option to help smokers with chronic pain become more motivated to quit.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage feasibility study with a small number of participants, so it won't prove whether the intervention actually helps people quit smoking. Results may not apply to broader populations.
