First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a dental checkup before heart valve surgery can help prevent serious infections, the need for another surgery, or death. About 1300 adults who are scheduled for heart valve surgery will be randomly assigned to either have a dental screening or not. The researchers will then track their health for two years to see if the dental screening makes a difference.
