App vs. In-Person: which fall prevention program works best for seniors?
NCT ID NCT07433153
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two ways to deliver the Otago Exercise Program, a proven set of balance and strength exercises that reduce falls in older adults. One group uses a smartphone app at home, the other attends community-based classes. Researchers will compare how well each approach improves walking speed and reduces fall risk in 30 adults aged 55 and older.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Otago Exercise Program (balance and strength exercises)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a smartphone-based exercise program is as effective as in-person classes for preventing falls in older adults, making fall prevention more accessible.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The smartphone app may have technical issues or low adherence.
