Pregnant smokers get paid to quit via phone app – does it work?

NCT ID NCT03922360

First seen May 14, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether offering financial incentives through a smartphone app can help pregnant women stop smoking. 150 pregnant smokers were randomly assigned to either receive rewards for submitting breath and saliva tests showing no smoking, or to receive standard care. The goal was to see if remote monitoring and rewards could make quitting easier, especially for women who have trouble attending frequent clinic visits.
