Phone app may detect staring seizures in kids

NCT ID NCT06093490

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 25, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tested whether a smartphone app can identify absence seizures—brief staring spells—in children. Kids with and without seizure history used the app during a standard EEG, which included guided deep breathing (hyperventilation) to trigger seizures. The app recorded video and sound, and doctors compared the app's accuracy to the EEG. The goal was to see if the app could reliably detect seizures, potentially offering a simpler monitoring tool.
