Invisible expander: new clear aligner aims to fix crossbite without metal
NCT ID NCT07533682
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two ways to widen the upper jaw using clear aligners in adults aged 18-35 with a crossbite. One method uses a standard clear aligner, while the other adds a hidden plastic bar called the S11 expander. The goal is to see which approach works better and how the teeth move, using 3D scans. Thirty participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Smartee S11 expander (a clear aligner with a built-in transpalatal bar)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more comfortable and invisible way to correct crossbites in adults without surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device is new and its long-term stability is unknown.
