Smart bottle lights up to remind students to hydrate
NCT ID NCT06259799
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a smart water bottle that lights up when you're behind on drinking can help college students drink more water. Thirty students who currently drink less than recommended will use the bottle for a period, along with tracking their urine color and thirst. The goal is to see if this simple technology can improve hydration and help form healthy habits.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Smart water bottle with light reminders and self-monitoring tools
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, tech-based way to help college students stay better hydrated, potentially reducing risks of obesity, diabetes, and kidney disease.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to all students. The intervention relies on self-reporting and daily tracking, which may not be accurate or sustainable long-term.
