New study aims to boost smart asthma care for children

NCT ID NCT07138027

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests two strategies to help doctors prescribe SMART therapy—a single inhaler for daily control and quick relief—for children with moderate to severe asthma. Researchers will use electronic reminders and education, plus a community health worker and nurse care manager, to see if these tools increase SMART use. The study involves 18 pediatric clinics and children aged 5-18.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Clinical decision support, education, and population health management

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show effective ways to increase use of SMART therapy in children with asthma, improving symptom control and reducing attacks.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage implementation study with only 18 clinics, so results may not apply broadly. It tests strategies, not a new treatment, so direct patient benefit is uncertain.
