Sleep pill may curb alcohol cravings, study suggests

Summary

This study is testing whether suvorexant, a medication currently used for insomnia, can help people with moderate to severe alcohol use disorder drink less. 250 participants will take either the drug or a placebo pill nightly for 8 weeks while tracking their drinking, cravings, and stress. Researchers want to see if the drug reduces heavy drinking days and dampens stress reactions that can trigger alcohol use.
