Sleep pill tested to fight Post-Surgery confusion in seniors
NCT ID NCT05733286
Summary
This study tested whether giving an FDA-approved sleep medication (suvorexant) for three nights after surgery could help older adults sleep better and reduce the severity of post-surgery confusion, known as delirium. 142 participants aged 65+ undergoing non-cardiac surgery were randomly given either the drug or a placebo. Researchers measured sleep with a headband monitor and assessed confusion levels to see if the medication made a difference.
