Could a Blood-Derived patch replace costly sealants in brain surgery?

NCT ID NCT03910374

First seen May 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tested whether a membrane made from a patient's own blood (L-PRF) can seal the skull base after sinus surgery as well as standard materials. 220 adults with tumors near the pituitary gland took part. The goal was to see if the natural membrane prevents spinal fluid leaks just as effectively and at a lower cost.
