Could your skin tone make pulse oximeters less reliable?

NCT ID NCT07415187

First seen Feb 24, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study looks at whether pulse oximeters—the clips placed on your finger to measure oxygen—are less accurate for people with darker skin. Researchers will compare the device's readings to oxygen levels measured directly from blood in 194 adults already having a blood test. The goal is to understand and reduce measurement bias to improve patient safety.
