Skin biopsy may spot Parkinson's risk years before symptoms
NCT ID NCT07428447
First seen Feb 25, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study is testing whether a simple skin biopsy can identify people with essential tremor who are at high risk of developing Parkinson's disease. Essential tremor affects millions, and about 1% of those with it develop Parkinson's each year. Researchers will follow 300 participants for 24 months to see if a protein called phosphorylated alpha-synuclein in the skin can predict who will convert to Parkinson's.
