First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests a handheld device that detects early skin damage up to 10 days before bedsores are visible. Nursing home staff will use the scanner during routine checks to start prevention care sooner. The study involves about 4,700 residents and compares outcomes to the year before the device was used. The goal is to reduce painful, costly pressure injuries, especially in people with darker skin where early signs are harder to see.
