Can a laser beam replace the pinch test for scleroderma patients?
NCT ID NCT04996082
First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study tested whether Raman spectroscopy, a non-invasive laser technique, can accurately measure skin fibrosis in people with systemic sclerosis (scleroderma). Twenty-six adults with the disease had their skin scanned with the device. The goal was to see if this method is more reliable than the current standard, the modified Rodnan skin score, which can vary between doctors.
