First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a reinforcing material called SIS during bowel reconnection after rectal cancer surgery can prevent a serious complication called anastomotic leakage. About 966 adults with mid-to-low rectal cancer will be randomly assigned to receive either standard surgery or surgery with SIS reinforcement. Researchers will compare leak rates, need for a temporary stoma, and quality of life over 12 months.
