One doctor or two? new study tests best way to perform balloon enteroscopy
NCT ID NCT06280469
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares using one doctor versus two doctors to perform a procedure called single-balloon enteroscopy, which looks deep into the small intestine. About 228 adults with suspected small bowel disease will be randomly assigned to either technique. The goal is to see if one operator can do the job just as well as two, which could save time and reduce staffing needs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Single-balloon enteroscopy procedure
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a single-operator technique is just as good as two operators, potentially saving time and staff resources.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 228 participants, so results may not apply to all hospitals or patients. The study focuses on procedure technique, not a new treatment.
