Summary
This study looks at whether simvastatin, a drug typically used for cholesterol, can help prevent serious liver problems in veterans with early-stage cirrhosis (scarred liver but no symptoms yet). About 142 participants will receive either simvastatin or a placebo to see if it reduces the risk of complications like bleeding, fluid buildup, or liver cancer. The trial also checks how genes affect the drug's safety and its impact on quality of life.
