Viagra pill tested to prevent birth emergencies and save newborns
NCT ID NCT06522854
Summary
This study aimed to see if giving sildenafil citrate (the medicine in Viagra) to mothers during labor could help babies get more oxygen, reducing the need for emergency C-sections, breathing assistance at birth, and infant deaths. It was a small pilot trial planned for pregnant women in low-resource countries, comparing the drug to a placebo pill. The trial was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled.
