Sigh breath may reveal hidden lung problems in ventilator patients
NCT ID NCT07172061
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study looked at 110 adults on breathing machines to see if a special deep breath (a sigh) can help doctors measure lung stiffness and find out if the lungs can be opened up more. The goal was to see if using sigh information to adjust machine settings improves breathing compared to usual care. The study did not test a treatment, but aimed to improve how doctors monitor and set ventilators.
